Reading Pennsylvania Snake Situation: Hello, I have read your website and hoping you can help us with identifying the skin. We live in Reading PA in the private old two story house; we have a small pond in the yard and our yard is quite big and have a lot of shadow because of big trees. This skin I found several days ago near the house, on the street side - half (with a head) was lying on the ground and another half - (as you may see on the picture) was hanging right under the protruding structure with our bedroom window and siding. There is a sort of a niche under it and i am really afraid of a snake living there. When we moved in about 5 years ago - the property was very nice but neglected by previous owners - we caught one rat in the attic; then another in the garage. We are slowly renovating the house and sealing possible wildlife ways inside. When i found this skin - got very scared first (as i feel afarid of snakes), called an animal control service - they said the charge 350.00 plus tax for technician to come and make a report on possible snake/pest entries; and they install traps only if the snake was found inside the house. However when i asked whether thry can identify whether the snake venomous by the skin - they said "probably" but were not sure at all. I have a skin and ready to mail it to you if you need it for identification - also may be you could suggest us what to do - especially if it is a venomous snake. Our neighbours have small kids and a little dog - the least thing i want is to endanger them in any way. And, well, us too.
