Lowell Massachusetts Snake Situation: Hi Dave, Last month we bought a home in Lowell MA, only to discover hundreds of garter snakes! We were told we inherited a large den (s) - a Hibernaculum - adjacent to (and maybe even under) our house. Snake are everywhere and range from 1 inch, 4, 8, and 9 inches and up to 3 feet. - In our gardens, garage, grass, tool areas, and more. Two were aggressive. We don't want them here! We don't care if they catch bugs, mice, rats or banana trees. We cannot stand them. If they get into the house, we will pack up & move out. I called them & got an answering service girl who knew zero. She did not even know if they handled snakes. I left my number several times, and waited & waited. Do you know if they handle snakes? Also, can you give me a 2nd referral? I love your services & website & would love to find someone like you where we live.
Good day! Thank you for your site educating people about snakes. I agree that snakes are beneficial and beautiful and, at the very least, should be left alone or "moved along". I do my best to convince my snake-phobic friends of the same. However, I can see where there is one case where killing a snake can't be avoided ... a python killing a human or a family pet. As someone who likes to be prepared and educated about a situation before I am knee-deep in it (must be all those years in Girl Scouts), I started wondering what would be the best action in such a case. Of course, if you have a technique that would cause a python to immediately release its victim, I'd be very interested in that as well. I did a Google search and to my astonishment, for the first time ever, I did not find an answer to an internet search. But I did find your site. What action could I take in this situation? Thanks.
Hi David. I am new to Massachussetts and like snakes. I have a ball python but am curious to learn more about florida wild snakes. I'm very intrested in learning what's ok to grab and what's venomous. Are you ever near Lowell area? I have a wooded area behind me and people here always see snakes, mostly black. Black racer? Neighbor saw one behind my place that was black from the head back a little then had some sort of pattern the rest of the way back. Not sure what that is. I'm not scared of snakes, I just don't want to grab the wrong kind. Anyway I could meet up with you sometime if your in the area? I'm always interested in learning more. Thanks!
